Simon’s early entrepreneurial career saw him found and run five businesses split between Barcelona and London through his 20s and early 30s. He describes his record as being two wins (exits) two losses (closed down) and one draw (still going strong) whilst building up experience in several different sectors and types of businesses.
In 2010, after a few months out, Simon founded The Sandpit, which he pioneered as a new model for early startup investment and support; the “Business Builder”. Recognising that startup founders rarely have the perfect experience or rounded skillset to build their companies, and that pure capital and mentorship only goes so far, the Business Builder model deploys an experienced operational team into the startup to not only help create the go-to-market strategy, but also execute on it! This is an outcome-based model that is fairer for the entrepreneur and the external investors.
Simon speaks four languages and outside of business loves playing and watching sport, travelling the world and also enjoys great food and wine.
