What advice would you give to yourself if you were a startup looking for investors in 2017?
By Catherine Lewis La Torre, CEO, British Business Bank Investments
1. Do your research. There is a lot of information out there and it’s important to know what the options are. The Business Finance Guide is a really good publication which sets out the different types of finance available in the market and this can be downloaded from our website.
2. Shop around. We are very fortunate in the UK to have lots of different options for start-up companies. Some of these are government-funded programmes and many are purely commercial. It’s important to identify which form of financing is most appropriate to meet your own business needs and ambitions.
3. Network. Engage with other entrepreneurs and any contacts that you have in the finance industry. Attend events like these and ask for advice and introductions.
Be ambitious, resolute, persistent but patient. Apple wasn’t built in a day!
